Nic Lowe

My name is Nic Lowe, I am 22 years old, I work full time in outdoor ed, and I am using my passion for kayaking and adventure as a means to spread awareness for Mental Health. I am based along the Surf Coast of Victoria, Australia.

From May through to August this year I am taking off on the Paddle For Mental Health throughout North America. First off I am heading to Hawaii to compete in the Molokai World Titles surf ski race. Secondly I am heading across to Alaska, where we are aiming to jump in sea kayaks for an expedition, paddling from Sitka up to Gustavus, into glacier bay, and return (around 3 weeks of paddling). After that I am flying down to Vancouver, where we plan to kayak around Vancouver Island. I am staying on in Canada to compete at the Canadian National Downwind Titles for surf ski. The following week I cross the border to the US to race in another world league surf ski race: The Gorge, on the Hood River, Oregon. And to finish the trip I will spend some time paddling down in LA.

The reason I am aiming to raise awareness for mental health is due to having suffered a very sports based eating disorder when I was younger. I now aim to help others who suffer mental illness through raising awareness and conversation.
