We love taking superior performance fabrics, typically reserved for outdoor purists and using them for highly functional, urban and travel designs. Such is the case with our new ‘Ascent’ jacket. The ‘Ascent’ Merino Softshell Jacket is a superb garment for broad ranging outdoor use including snow sports, mountaineering, hiking, camping, cycling and general adventure travel.

It features Schoeller NanoSphere® fabric – hyper-premium, light weight, 4-way stretch softshell material fused with 100% pure Tasmanian Merino wool which is museling-free, to form a remarkably flexible garment that is totally water repellent while retaining breathability and windproof qualities.
Starting with the NanoSphere® fabric, we added Core YKK® hand pockets designed to avoid pack straps, a two-way YKK® main zipper, YKK® chest pocket, articulated elbows and tapered, adjustable, snap cuffs. Importantly the ‘Ascent’ jacket’s is hyper-light, weighing only 550 grams! And it’s striking in both appearance and handle.

So, what is NanoSphere®?
Nature showed us how. The leaves of certain plants always stay clean because dirt cannot adhere to their finely-structured surfaces. Rain drops roll off and, at the same time, dirt particles are washed off of the leaves. This function is also known as the self-cleaning effect.
On classic surfaces, water, oil and dirt are absorbed by the fabric as the larger contact area allows them to adhere better. On the ‘Ascent’ jacket’s NanoSphere® surface, nanoparticles form a fine structure. Water, dirt and oil only remain on the peaks of the nano structures and have a diminished contact area. Adhesion is significantly reduced and the drops simply roll off or can be rinsed off with water.

The Merino Ascent soft shell jacket is an exceptional layer that was the perfect outer layer for the trip effectively stopping most of the wind and keeping us warm and dry. Lilli practically lived in hers for the whole time we were trekking. You and the Wilderness Wear team have done an exceptional job in the design and function of the jacket and we definitely we be recommending it to people’

BUST: Measure the circumference of your chest. Place one end of the tape measure at the fullest part of your bust, wrap it around (under your armpits, around your shoulder blades, and back to the front) to get the measurement.

WAIST: Measure the circumference of your waist. Use the tape to circle your waist (sort of like a belt would) at your natural waistline, which is located above your belly button and below your rib cage. (If you bend to the side, the crease that forms is your natural waistline.)

HIP: Measure the circumference of your hips. Start at one hip and wrap the tape measure around your rear, around the other hip, and back to where you started. Make sure the tape is over the largest part of your hips.

INSIDE LEG: This is the distance from the uppermost inner part of your thigh to the bottom of your ankle. If you have a pair of pants that fit you perfectly, measure the inseam of the pants, again from the crotch to the hem.

Athletic Fit

More of a “tailored” fit that is tighter across the middle and shoulder sections in tops and tighter across the backside, upper thigh and lower leg sections in leggings.

Slim Fit

A snug, close-to-the body fit for low bulk, layering. Clothing in this style don’t have extra fabric hanging or draping anywhere.

Regular Fit

Neither snug, nor loose, these garments are worn solo or over other layers. Regular fit clothing tends to fit most body types comfortably and have a little extra fabric than slim fit.

Relaxed Fit

Relaxed refers to a fit that’s looser than regular, but not baggy. Typically, relaxed clothing provide a comfortable, looser fit.

Summary for Mens Ascent Merino Soft Shell Jacket
Average Score: 4 (1 ratings)
4.7/5
The jacket is a great fit in both girth, shoulders and core length and the collar is perfect as it doesn't bulk up under the chin area.

This is based on an out of the bag fit. I’m thinking I might need to exchange for the 2XL depending on what you think. The jacket is a great fit in both girth, shoulders and core length and the collar is perfect as it doesn’t bulk up under the chin area. I probably find the sleeve length just a wee bit too short and it comes back on the forearm if I stretch out my arms (simulate reaching up high for example). Do you know if the 2XL is significantly bigger in the body and if not, does it run any extra length on the arms? If it’s at all possible, I’d like to try on the 2XL just to compare – the XL is still all tagged up and has only the one trial fit.
