Overall construction is beautiful
These got a hammering over winter! I didn’t wear anything but these for ~5 months straight. Most of the time was with an ultralight merino singlet base layer (even lighter than the WW cool 155), but I tried them a couple of times in warmer conditions minus the base layer just to see how they fared from a “survival” point of view (accidentally overdressing for conditions) – happy to report it was very manageable in direct sunlight in 20+ degrees (sweaty but not “hot”), and zero odour. Retain 90% warmth even when soaking wet. I had a big crash into wildlife at 40+km/h at night on a fire trail which destroyed everything I was wearing on the outer – I had the jersey under an ultralight rain jacket (ripped to shreds). The jersey copped a couple of tiny holes in the shoulder where I skidded on the exposed fabric for a few metres, but not enough to bother tack stitching as the tears aren’t running. I was highly impressed by this durability, and it gave me a lot of confidence in wearing the jersey through scratchy bushes, and for MTB trail use (high frequency crashing).nThe styling and reflective elements are excellent. Overall construction is beautiful, and the slightly dropped tail offers good protection in the wet. Pockets retain impressive stiffness for merino with minimal sagging, and are a generous size for snacks/phone/packable jacket. The 1/4 zip was sufficient to get the jersey on/off over a helmet and vent effectively without adding unnecessary bulk. My only comment is regarding bulk/packability, for my very specific bike packing purposes – the zip pull is quite large (which I understand is great in cold conditions with thick gloves, but starts to add weight and bulk), and the bottom silicon gripper and double thickness hem seam makes it a fairly hefty item to scrunch up and pack, compared with other merino jerseys I’ve worn. This is only a consideration when I’m on trips carrying >1 jersey/tee (so that one is packet at all times), and I’m unusually obsessive about pack size because bag real estate is in such short supply on my small bike. A really spectacular active merino jersey though (and I’ve worn some jerseys in my time…), and extremely competitive price for the quality – well done.
