Wilderness Wear has been designing and manufacturing merino wool hiking socks in Melbourne since 1989. With over 30 years of experience, we have created a comprehensive range that caters to all hiking adventures — from leisurely day walks in the Dandenongs to multi-day epics like the Larapinta Trail in the Northern Territory. Our socks are engineered to provide comfort, durability, and blister-free performance, even under challenging conditions.

Unlike other brands, our hiking socks feature a higher percentage of merino wool, which is 100% Australian, blended with nylon and lycra for enhanced durability and stretch. We have also developed a fusion range incorporating Climayarn® technology, a blend of 80% Climayarn® (3:2 ratio – Pure Australian Merino/Superfine Schoeller Polypropylene), which delivers superior moisture management, thermal regulation, and long-lasting performance.

For hikers prone to blisters, the eXtreme range integrates our Blister Free™ system, which uses friction-free Profilen® fibers in the heel and toe areas. This ensures your feet remain blister-free, even on multi-day hikes or when trekking through rugged terrain.

Sourced from premium merino wool growers in Tasmania, our WildernessWool™ is ethically produced and provides exceptional insulation, softness, and resilience. Provenance is transparent, and the quality reflects its Australian heritage.

Profilen®

Profilen® is PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) with an extremely low friction coefficient. Yarn infused with 5% Profilen® reduces the formation of blisters and abrasions, ensuring comfortable, long-distance hiking experiences.

Climayarn®

Climayarn® fusion combines natural merino wool with high-performance polypropylene, offering rapid moisture elimination, heat preservation in low temperatures, and cool protection during warmer conditions.
