These socks performed extremely well
I recently wore the Overland eXtreme socks, along with a pair of wick dry liners, on a three day pack walk through the western Blue Mountains. The socks performed extremely well, with the liners helping to avoid blisters. After washing, the socks bounced back well and I have worn them on more local walks since. At the time that I bought the eXtreme socks I also bought a pair of cheaper socks (wigwam) and found these to be of a very loose knit which made for an uncomfortable walking experience. The eXtreme socks are a little more expensive than other brands, but in my view having comfortable feet on a long hike makes them well worth the price.

They were brilliant!
The Merino 10k Extreme sock – Perfect running sock, actually perfect all round sock. I’ve worn them on 15km & 20km runs and they were brilliant. They did not move, the cut of the sock is really comfortable and there was absolutely no signs of rubbing.

Absolutely the best sock during all conditions that my reasonably extensive trialing came up with.
A bit over a year ago I started training in earnest for a long walk that I am taking later this year, the Camino de Santiago. Once I began getting some serious hours up in daily and weekend walks I started to refine my options for clothing, shoes and of course, my socks. Apart from the obvious decisions about comfort, the socks needed to be merino wool as they appear to be the only type of sock that can be washed at night and be ready to wear the next morning. This is important when I am only taking two pairs of socks in total. When you are going to walk for over a month and plan for the total backpack weight including a sleeping bag to come in under 6 kilos, everything has to perform well. There can be no passengers. I bought some very well regarded and highly priced brands, and all performed really well for the shorter walks or in any normal activity. But during summer, these fancied brands often fell short as pounding the pavement for several hours in temperatures in the high 30’s showed the construction was not suitable for softening feet in overheated conditions. One day I ended up with an imprint of a sock’s internal construction embedded into my sole, and that was from a very well regarded brand. I started to look at other varieties of merino socks and gave the Wilderness ‘Cape to Cape Light Hiker Extreme’ socks a try.

A lifesaver on my hikes
I’ve been looking for the perfect pair of eco-friendly, merino fleece socks, and these are it, y’all–completely sourced in Tasmania! The cushioning it provides has been a lifesaver on my hikes. Without shoes, it feels like 3 extra layers of padding, so it’s still comfortable even when I take my shoes off to sit and relax during a hike

My Wilderness Wear 200% Australian owned woolen compression thermal is unbelievably awesome! It’s snug, and keeps me warm when in and out of water, no seams that chafe under the arms, While rowing the George Bass Surf Boat Marathon in the heat of january along the south coast of NSW. I would spend several hours every day in and out the water, either rowing or sitting immobile in the support boat. Going from Icey cold water to hard exercise in the heat to sitting damp and still in a windy support boat, I never wanted to to take it off. After 7 days with only a daily rinse it didn’t stink!!!

Extremely comfortable and soft
The WW Base layers were all extremely comfortable and soft. Not itchy at all. As there was no laundry facility or even showers as we climbed higher, the clothes’ odour-resistance was ESSENTIAL
and very obvious. They simply didn’t smell and they also dried very quickly. I found it really amazing that the same top kept me warm when it was cold, and kept me cool when it was hot. I wore the pair of long johns at night as a pj and they kept me very warm. I found the merino fusion top very interesting. It has all the qualities of a merino top, warm and comfortable, but not as soft and doesn’t cling to the body as much. I feel it’s more suitable as a top layer with a lighter weight merino underneath.
